Conference Submissions

The 2022 ISITDBT Conference will be held on Thursday, November 17th, 2022. We anticipate holding our first-ever hybrid conference, which will include options to participate virtually or in-person. However, these plans may change based on pandemic conditions, cost limitations, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Submissions for the 2022 Conference will be open on May 1, 2022 and we will accept submissions until May 31, 2022. All conference proposals are due by May 31, 2022. We will provide further information on how to submit your proposal on this page on May 1, 2022. Please see the information below for preparing your submission. We look forward to reviewing your wonderful work!

Presenter Requirements (all submission types)

Because our conference will likely be hybrid, there are additional requirements of presenters that aren’t typical of an in-person conference. Anyone who has a presentation accepted will be required to submit several additional elements upon being accepted and to reserve time beyond the scheduled conference time to participate. If you cannot meet these requirements by September 1, 2022, please do not submit a proposal.

If your proposal is accepted, you will be required to submit the following materials by September 1, 2022:

  1. Headshot photograph
  2. Brief (1 paragraph) professional biography
  3. Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resume
  4. Statement on conflicts of interest
  5. Several questions and answers about your presentation to be used for continuing education (CE) credits

In addition, you will need to:

  1. Submit your slides that you will make available to attendees by November 1, 2022
  2. Schedule a brief technology check 2-3 weeks before the conference
  3. Be available for a dress rehearsal in early November
  4. Please also note: The hybrid conference format will allow presenters both virtually and in-person. However, we will not be able to accommodate presentations in which one or more presenters are virtual and other(s) are in-person.

We understand that these requirements are not typical of previous in-person conferences, and, this is what is needed to ensure that we can offer continuing education (CEs) credits to both virtual and in-person participants. We ask for your understanding regarding the fact that we contract with other companies to offer CEs and to produce this conference — the deadlines posted are needed to ensure timely production of the conference. Presenters who do not adhere to the posted deadlines and requirements may have their presentation removed from the conference program.

Submission Requirements

Clinical Workshops are 60 minutes in length and should advance a participant’s knowledge of DBT; both “broad spectrum DBT” and “niche DBT” submissions will be accepted. We are particularly interested in proposals that advance participants’ knowledge of utilizing DBT with populations that are not well-represented in the current literature. We strongly encourage submissions that are evidence based. Submissions should include a workshop title, list of presenters and affiliations, 3 learning objectives, and an abstract. In addition, please specify whether material will be geared to one of three levels: basic (will be useful to all participants), novice (useful to individuals who are relatively new to DBT), or intermediate (requires a moderate degree of familiarity with DBT). Submissions should be no more than 1 page in length.

We will hold a research “lightning round,” a game-show-like rapid round of data presented in a novel and succinct way with many other researchers. Researchers will present live for 8-15 minutes. Appropriate topics include basic studies on DBT-relevant areas such as emotion regulation, borderline personality disorder, suicidal behavior, and/or team or therapist behaviors. We are particularly interested in research that advances DBT-relevant knowledge related to populations that are not currently well-represented in the current literature and research that addresses topics related to DBT tele-health. Other topics may also be appropriate if relevant to the DBT community. Submissions should include a title, list of authors and affiliations, and an abstract and should not exceed one page in length. Please also include any ideas you have for why your data are well-suited to a lightning round (a novel way of presenting, or a rationale for why your data work as “information nuggets”). If we do not get adequate lightning round submissions, we reserve the right to invite one or two longer talks from the applicant pool; however, we are aiming for this format so please plan your submissions accordingly.

We invite you to submit posters on DBT, or DBT – relevant topics such as emotion regulation, borderline personality disorder, suicidal behavior and/or team or therapist behaviors. We are particularly interested in research that advances DBT-relevant knowledge related to populations that are not currently well-represented in the current literature and research that addresses topics related to DBT tele-health.  Presenters will be asked to submit a handout for their poster to be made available to conference attendees on the conference website by November 1, 2022. Submissions should include a title, list of authors and affiliations, indication of if the first author is a current student or not, and an abstract and should not exceed one page in length. The program committee will vote for best poster submitted by a student which will receive the ISITDBT Best Research Poster Award.

Call for Nominations: 2022 ISITDBT Educator Award

ISITDBT is proud to accept nominations for the 2022 ISITDBT Educator Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to implementing and expanding DBT by way of education of clinicians, researchers, and the general public. Educator award recipients have gone above the call of duty to provide vital education about DBT.  Previous recipients of the Educator Award include Charlie Swenson and Cindy Sanderson (2002), Heidi Heard, Michaela Swales (2009), Linda Dimeff (2011), and Jill Rathus (2016), among several other leaders in the field.

Please submit a nomination letter for the ISITDBT Educator Award indicating the evidence supporting the nominee’s contribution to the DBT Community via the nominee’s efforts to educate others about the field about DBT and/or Borderline Personality Disorder. Please submit nomination letters no later than Friday, September 30, 2022.

Call for Submissions: 2022 Student Research Award

In recent years it has become increasingly more difficult to find funding to support advancements in DBT research, especially in the US. This difficulty is discrepant with the increased interest from the clinical community in DBT as well as with the need to improve this complex treatment targeting a difficult to treat population.

In support of the DBT research community as well as to encourage the next generation of researchers to continue to pursue the improvement and optimization of DBT, at the 2022 ISITDBT Conference we will award $3000 in funding to the most meritorious research application coming from a graduate student or postdoctoral researcher. The award can complement existing funding to support an exciting line of DBT research.
Applications are due by Friday, September 30, 2022.

Please feel free to reach out to us with questions at isit@isitdbt.net.
